Clinical studies and the use of artificial intelligence in stroke

Stroke is currently the number one cause of death in China and a major cause of disability. The Stroke Research and Prevention Unit, HKU (HKU Stroke) is committed to better understanding the causes of stroke, as well as deriving better treatment strategies to improve the outcome of stroke.

Research projects that HKU Stroke is currently engaged in include:
1) Epidemiology of stroke
2) Use of digital health technologies to facilitate monitoring and improving the outcome after stroke
3) Study of how lifestyle and environmental factors interact with the gut microbiota to influence vascular and brain health
4) Clinical trials to improve outcome after stroke

Professor GKK Lau, Department of Medicine

Gary Kui Kai Lau is currently Clinical Associate Professor in Neurology, Director of HKU Stroke and Director of the Tam Wing Fan Neuroimaging Research Laboratory. He has published over 140 research articles or book chapters relating to stroke, including in reputable journals such as Lancet Neurology, Lancet Infectious Diseases, European Heart Journal, JAMA Neurology, Neurology and Stroke. He has also helped establish a number of programmes to support stroke survivors and families within Hong Kong.
