In 2020, the LKS Faculty of Medicine established the “HKUMed Research Fellowship Scheme for Clinical Academics” to provide opportunities for clinical academic staff to be relieved of all teaching, clinical and administrative duties to conduct full-time research at the Faculty for a period of three months to one year. A maximum of five awards will be made each year and the selected Fellow will receive a research grant of maximum HK$1,000,000. Fellows may also conduct research activities or training overseas during the Fellowship period.
The Clinical Research Fellowship Scheme was launched in 2020 to encourage Hospital Authority (HA) doctors to take part in research work at their early career stage and encourage a research culture within the clinical setting. It provides opportunities for HA doctors to engage in a basic science or clinical research project for a period of six months to one year under an attachment programme at the School of Clinical Medicine.
The HKUMed Tam Wing Fan Innovation Start-up Grant ("Start-up Grant") plays a crucial role in fostering innovation and translational research that make significant impact on healthcare. By providing support to basic science and clinical researchers, the grant empowers them to explore original and innovative ideas and to adopt or develop new technologies that have the potential to drive advancements in healthcare.
HKUMed Research Collaboration Booster Fund (“Booster Fund”), supported by the Dean's Fund, aims to strengthen inter-Department/School and inter-Faculty collaboration on strategic interdisciplinary research areas and enhance the competitiveness of staff in the applications for mid- to large-scale collaborative research grants from an outside funding body. It specifically targets promoting team science in high-impact, innovative and high translation potential projects.
Building on the longstanding partnership of the LKS Faculty of Medicine (the Faculty) and Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong (GHK), the Faculty and GHK established The University of Hong Kong - Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong Clinical Research Fund, which aims to foster collaboration between the Faculty and Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong (GHK) and those that could benefit from the advanced equipment available at GHK; enhance capabilities and strengths of the Faculty and GHK where expertise in the two entities is complementary and synergistic; establish a new platform of cutting-edge medical research and clinical services through collaboration; foster a dynamic environment for knowledge exchange (KE) within the clinical community; and boost social responsibility by providing medical assistance and healthcare services to those in need.
