This project evaluates novel interventions for myopia control, including low-dose atropine, myopia treatment spectacles, and light therapy, in children. It tests efficacy through randomized trials and real-world community screening.

Professor X Zhang, Department of Ophthalmology

Professor Zhang Xiujuan is a clinician-scientist with expertise in research on myopia research, ocular epidemiology, and blindness prevention. She has the research focus on myopia and its intervention, particularly low-concentration atropine eye drops for myopia control. She graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, with a PhD degree in Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. She has led five ocular epidemiological studies, involving a total of 10,000 subjects, for her PhD projects. She coordinated the Hong Kong Children Eye Study, a comprehensive investigation involving 40,000 children to investigate the epidemiology of myopia and paediatric ocular diseases. Her primary involvement in clinical trials of low-concentration atropine has been instrumental in advancing the treatment and prevention of myopia.
