Patients with treatment resistant schizophrenia have particularly poor cognitive functions including memory and concentration impairements. The cognitive function impairments contribut significantly for the functional deficits of these patients. There has not been any effective medication intervention to improve cognitive functions.
In this Collaborative Research Grant funded project, we will be conducting a randomised control trial to examine the effect of exercise and tDCS interventions specificially in the group fo patients with treatment resistant schizophrenia. The neurobiological underpinning of the impact will also be studies through the use of multiple investigative modalities including MRI, microbiome and genetics.
This project will be suited for both postgraduate as well as MRes and involved students will have the opportunities to run the trial within the trial team, conduct the assessment and learn about the data analysis and posisble result interpretation.
