Development of Inhalable Nanoparticle-based Drug Delivery Systems Against Respiratory Infections

Programme(s) to which this project applies:

☑ MPhil/PhD ☒ MRes[Med] ☑ URIS

This project aims at developing an inhalable nanoparicle-based formulation for treatment of respiratory infections. Specifically, the student(s) will be responsible to:

(i) Design and fabricate nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems suitable for oral inhalation;

(ii) Characterize the pharmaceutical properties of the drug delivery systems;

(iii) Evaluate the safety and efficacy of the drug delivery systems via a series of in vitro and in vivo studies

Students with interests in this project are encouraged to contact Professor Aviva Chow (asfchow@hku.hk) for more project details.

Professor ASF Chow, Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy

Professor Aviva SF Chow currently is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy at HKU. He is also a Project Leader and Co-principal Investigator at Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre (ABIC) funded by the Health@InnoHK Programme. With a mixed training in chemical engineering and pharmaceutical sciences, Professor Chow’s research expertise is in advanced drug delivery using particle/cocrystal engineering and nanotechnology. Prior to joining the HKU, he worked as a Technical Lead and Research Scientist at Jacobson Pharma Corporation Limited for drug development and product reformulation. His research goal is to develop novel drug delivery systems that can be utimately translated in clinical applications.
