To address the growing demand for healthcare services, the HKSAR Government has been increasing healthcare-related student places since the 2019‑20 academic year. A HK$30 billion fund has been set aside by the Government to upgrade teaching and training facilities at UGC‑funded universities, including The University of Hong Kong, to ensure students are provided with adequate support and a high‑quality learning environment.
In response to this expansion, HKU is constructing a Clinical Training Amenities Centre (CTAC) at No. 6 Sassoon Road. The centre will consist of two towers, designed to meet the pressing needs of medical and nursing students. It will feature:
- Advanced clinical training facilities – including dedicated training rooms, simulation labs, and multi‑purpose teaching spaces;
- On‑campus accommodation – providing about 700 bed spaces for students undertaking clinical rotations at the adjacent Queen Mary Hospital;
- Comprehensive student amenities – such as study areas, common rooms, canteens, wellness consultation rooms etc.
The CTAC will enable senior‑year medical and nursing students to participate in shift‑based practical training and to respond promptly to emergency medical situations at Queen Mary Hospital.
Scheduled for completion by 2029, the CTAC will not only alleviate current space constraints but also significantly enhance the overall learning experience and well‑being of medical and nursing students at HKU.
