09 Jan 2014

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our distinguished alumnus Professor Lee Shiu Hung today on January 9, 2014, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family.

Being a specialist in public health, occupational health and administrative medicine, Professor Lee made substantial contributions to the medical and public health sector in Hong Kong for more than 50 years. He brought the concepts of public health and primary health care into the forefront of Hong Kong’s health services, and established an infrastructure for the control of communicable diseases in Hong Kong.

Professor Lee graduated with an MBBS degree, and later the Doctor of Medicine degree from the University in 1958 and 1992 respectively. After his retirement as the Director of Health in 1994, Professor Lee devoted his time to educate and nourish health professionals. The Medical Faculty and the School of Chinese Medicine are privileged to have had his dedicated service as Honorary Professor. His wisdom and untiring energy will be fondly remembered by all of us at HKU.

We honour the memory of Professor Lee for his lifetime contribution to medical education and to medical and health services in Hong Kong.
