G.B. Ong Visiting Fellowship
In 1982, friends and colleagues of Professor Tan Sri G.B. Ong donated a sum of over $700,000 to a fund established on the occasion of Professor Ong’s retirement from the Chair of Surgery at The University of Hong Kong. The income from the investment of this fund is used to finance the G.B. Ong Visiting Professorships and Fellowships in Surgery.
The G.B. Ong Visiting Fellowship in Surgery is open to both teachers in the Department of Surgery or medical graduates of The University of Hong Kong working in the field of surgery for the purpose of undertaking a period of study and/or overseas training; or surgeons from other medical centres to enable them to visit the Department of Surgery for the purpose of teaching, research or training.
Applications are welcome, and nominations will be made by the Head of the Department of Surgery and approved by the Board of the Faculty of Medicine. The duties of incoming visiting fellows will be delegated by the respective division chiefs and approved by the Head of the Department. The emoluments of the appointment, whether incoming or outgoing, may comprise any or all of a return air-fare, or a part thereof if a part is paid from other sources; assistance with the cost of accommodation; and a subsistence allowance.
Those interested in applying for the G.B. Ong Visiting Fellowship are welcome to write to the Head of Department, indicating your choice of specialty for attachment and the proposed period of visit, together with a curriculum vitae and reference support.
