HKU-HA Data Collaboration Laboratory (HKU-HADCL)
Clinical Research Awareness & Data Learning Environment (CRADLE)


The anonymised sample data is composed of structured data from around 200,000 patients randomly selected from the patient populations of 2007 and 2017, stratified by age and gender, which includes:

  • Demographic characteristics
  • Attendance records to hospitals or clinics
  • Clinical diagnosis, procedures, medication and laboratory results
  • Radiology examination results
  • Classification of chronic diseases and cancers
     

Target users

Academic researchers from UGC-funded universities who would like to explore healthcare datasets and familiarise themselves with the data schema.

 

Prerequisites

Applicants for accessing CRADLE should be / have

  • currently an academic researcher / academic staff / research or taught postgraduate student from one of the UGC-funded universities,
  • University degree,
  • knowledge about data analytics tools and programming skills, and
  • basic understanding of HA clinical systems and data

Each applicant can choose to access CRADLE from the HKU-HA Data Collaboration Laboratory (HKU-HADCL), a remote access site located at the HKU Medical Campus, or the Hospital Authority (HA)'s Kowloon Bay location. Please visit the sections below for respective application and access procedures for the two sites.

Application and access procedures

  1. Interested HKU researchers are required to fill in the application form, a confidentiality undertaking and HA's remote access application form, and send the completed and duly signed forms (in scanned copies) to hadcl@hku.hk.
  2. HA reviews and approves the applications, and informs successful applicants (around 2 – 3 weeks).
  3. The Faculty Office will notify successful applicants for remote access to book access to HKU-HADCL via the Online Booking System; the earliest access date will be 5 working days from the date of booking.
  4. The Online Booking System assigns specific computer within remote site to applicant and allows site access during specified timeslots; unique login to the assigned computer will be generated.
  5. HA creates database logins and inform successful applicants directly.
  6. Successful applicants will be required to bring their staff/student card to the Faculty Office, 3/F, William MW Mong Block, 21 Sassoon Road for registration during the assigned timeslot. Your staff/student card will be kept by the Faculty Office until you sign out.

Application and access procedures

  1. Interested HKU researchers are required to fill in the application form and a confidentiality undertaking, and send the completed and duly signed forms (in scanned copies) to hadcl@hku.hk.
  2. HA reviews and approves the applications, and informs successful applicants (around 2 - 3 weeks).
  3. Successful applicants make access request via the data sharing portal provided by HA.
  4. HA confirms booking and inform successful applicants of the results of access requests and database logins.
  5. Successful applicants will be required to bring valid identification proof to EHP DCL in Kowloon Bay during the assigned timeslot for access to the laboratory.
