Appointment Scheduling
Currently, our services are offered to all full-time undergraduate students under HKUMed. If you are an undergraduate student outside of the Faculty of Medicine or a postgraduate student, you may reach out to CEDARS for relevant resources to support your needs. We also have limitations in offering services to students who are currently outside of Hong Kong due to restrictions in professional regulations in most countries. You are mostly encouraged to reach out to local services offered in your country. If you require assistance in locating resources within your country, feel free to reach out to us for further support.
For appointment scheduling with the Student Wellness Team, you can reach out to us via the following methods:
Our office hours:
If you are a staff or student looking to refer a student to us, you can relay the above contact methods to the student to make an appointment with us directly. You may also fill out the Online Referral Form on behalf of them after obtaining their agreement on being referred to the Student Wellness Team.
Typical Procedures for New Clients
As a new client to our service, you will be invited for a 15-minute phone triage with our Duty Counsellor. You may make the triage appointment using the Appointment Booking System. This is to learn more about your situation and to assess your needs. You may briefly share about the reason for reaching out, and during the call, you will be asked a series of standard assessment questions.
Next, you will be assigned to an individual counsellor who will follow up with you for regular counselling. This will be matched based on your preference, availability of staff, expertise, and other considerable factors. Within the following week after triage, your assigned counsellor will contact you to schedule an intake session which is usually 60-90 minutes in duration. The intake session will consist of a more comprehensive assessment to understand your background and history of the presenting issue. We will also develop a brief plan of support towards the end of the intake session.
Upon completion of the intake session, you will coordinate follow-up sessions with your individual counsellor and the frequency of meetings will be determined through mutual agreement. Generally, we prefer to meet with student in person for better relationship building and assessment accuracy. You may choose to terminate at any point and are recommended to talk to your counsellor if you wish to put a pause to counselling.
