This guideline is to encourage the HKUMed community and event organizers to maintain an environmental practice, it also aims to promote sustainability and raise the awareness of the community. Our key idea is to adopt 4R Principle and e-communication throughout HKUMed events, no matter big or small.
Disposable Plastic Free Campus Policy is a policy set up by the University to support its commitment to environmental sustainability and as a role model for the wider community.
HKU’s campus will be free of disposable plastic by 1 September 2020; selling and distributing the following disposable plastic items will be prohibited (including compostable or biodegradable plastics such as Oxo biodegradable or vegetable-based plastics):
✗ Single-use plastic food service ware
✗ Single-use plastic bottles of 1 litre or less in volume
✗ Single-use plastic banner
✗ Single-use plastic bag
The policy applies to all catering outlets, retail locations and vending machines owned by or located on university premises as well as all university affiliated units.
Exemptions to the policy may be permitted in health-related or other emergency situations.
To organise a sustainable event, the Ditch Disposable Campaign has provided toolkits for different events ranging from small seminars, orientation camp, to inauguration ceremony. Each toolkit contains tips and a guide for specific event, which covers activities and resources, food and beverage, publicity and signage, marketing, and waste disposal.
You may head to the campaign’s website for more information.
You may include these call-to-actions/incentives in the invitation:
