School of Public Health

With the support of the Division of Kinesiology of the School of Public Health, HKUMed Sports Health hosted a ‘Sports Health Empowerment Course for Primary Healthcare Professionals’. Participants from various District Health Centres, including nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, gained valuable skills for promoting exercise and other forms of physical activity.

The course aimed to provide healthcare professionals with a broad understanding of physiological responses and adaptations to exercise, as well as the crucial role of physical activity in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of major chronic diseases. It also sought to empower participants to provide physical activity counselling and prescribe exercise for health promotion.

The event received excellent feedback. The School will continue to support initiatives that empower primary healthcare professionals to incorporate sports health into their practice, ultimately improving health outcomes across communities.
