The HKU School of Nursing Peer Buddies Programme 2025 was successfully launched. This initiative invites Bachelor of Nursing (Full-time) students to serve as peer mentors to guide and support newly admitted Bachelor of Science in Nursing students, our recently launched academic programme tailored for non-local students. Peer mentors will help their mentees navigate academic challenges, foster personal growth, and smoothly integrate into our vibrant HKU community.
Supervised by faculty members, the Programme provides a valuable platform for fostering cross-cultural exchange, enhancing academic and social support, and promoting a sense of belonging within our university community. It specifically aims to connect students from diverse backgrounds within the School of Nursing. The Programme also offers peer mentors opportunities for personal growth, including improving communication and leadership skills, developing a sense of responsibility and fostering professional development.
A briefing and orientation session was led by the Programme's teachers-in-charge, Dr Joanna Ko Hiu-ki and Professor Polly Li Wai-chi, who provided guidance on mentoring skills and cultural insights. Following this session, peer mentors engaged in open dialogue with their mentees, fostering mutual understanding. We are confident that both peer mentors and mentees will benefit from this enriching experience and look forward to their continued growth through the Programme.
