Fostering an open, rigorous and reproducible research culture is essential for strengthening research integrity, particularly as the academic community confronts challenges such as paper mills and AI‑generated content. The Research Integrity Symposium featured senior editors from Med and The Lancet, who shared insights on emerging risks and best practices. Dr Duc Le discussed how generative AI is transforming scientific writing while raising important questions about authorship, data integrity and ethics. Dr Helena Wang highlighted escalating threats to research integrity and emphasised shared responsibility and practical strategies for detecting misconduct. Over 200 researchers and research postgraduate students gained timely perspectives on global efforts to advance openness, reproducibility and trust in scientific publishing.
