The HKUMed Pawsome Buddies Programme and Kick-off Ceremony was held on 21 June 2025 on the medical campus. The first cohort of 'Pawfessors' was introduced, featuring faculty members and their beloved companions: Dean Professor Chak-sing Lau with Ollie; Professor Gilberto Leung Ka-kit, Senior Advisor (Teaching & Learning), with Uni and Kaki; Professor Kendrick Shih Co, Assistant Dean (Student Wellness and Engagement), with Maxy, Saggie and Teddy; Professor Paul Lee Chi-ho, Assistant Dean (Student Wellness and Engagement), with Coffee; Professor Esther W.Y. Chan, Assistant Dean (Health Sciences Education), with Poppy; Professor Wendy Lam Wing-tak, Associate Professor and Division Head, School of Public Health, with Charlotte; and Dr Ruth Wong, Student Wellness Psychologist, with Haru.
This heart-warming programme recognises that medicine is not only about treatments and cures, but also about care, compassion and human connections. Our Pawsome Buddies provide HKUMed students with comfort, joy and emotional support. Officially named 'PAWfessors', they remind us that healing often begins with empathy, love and the warm companionship of a furry friend.
