Five young scientists from HKUMed excelled in the 2025 National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) funding exercise of the Young Scientist Fund. Professor Jasper Chan Fuk-woo (陳福和) (Microbiology, SClinMed) was awarded the prestigious Young Scientist Fund (Type A) (formerly known as the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars); Professor Liang Shikang (梁世康) and Professor Ni Tao (倪濤) (Biomedical Sciences) were awarded the Young Scientist Fund (Type B) (formerly known as the Excellent Young Scientists Fund); and Dr Che You (車有) (Public Health) and Dr Zhu Yizhou (祝亦周) (Orthopaedics &Traumatology, SClinMed) were awarded Young Scientist Fund (Type C) (formerly the Young Scientists Fund)


Local 

HKUMed was awarded 61 projects, totalling HK$73.4M in the General Research Fund (GRF) / Early Career Scheme (ECS) 2025/26 exercise from the Research Grants Council (RGC): 55 GRF awards and six ECS awards. The six young scholars awarded grants under the ECS are Professor Matrix Fung Man-him (馮文謙) (Surgery, SClinMed), Professor Huang Jianpan (黄建攀) (Diagnostic Radiology, SClinMed), and Professors Kim Jung (金鼎), Liang Shikang (梁世康), Wang Shoutang (王守堂) and Zhou Keda (周鈳達) (Biomedical Sciences).

Professor Chen Zhiwei (陳志偉) (Microbiology, SClinMed) received a major grant under the Innovation and Technology Fund Public Sector Trial Scheme of the Innovation and Technology Commission for his research project titled 'Trial: HIV Therapeutic DNA Vaccine (ICVAX) Phase I Clinical Trial'.

Professor Albert Chan Chi-yan (陳智仁) (Surgery, SClinMed) was awarded Honorary Membership in the European Surgical Association

Dr Chan Kwok-hung (陳國雄) (Microbiology, SClinMed) was named among the top 100 global researchers in his discipline in the 2025 rankings by Research.com

Professor Kenneth Cheung Man-chee (張文智) (Orthopaedics & Traumatology, SClinMed & HKU-SZ Hospital) was elected Vice President of the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association (APOA) and will serve as President from 2027 to 2028

Professor Herbert Kwok Wang-chun (郭宏駿) (Medicine, SClinMed) was appointed Editorial Board Member by Translational Pediatrics and Deputy Head, APSR Clinical Respiratory Medicine Assembly by Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR).

Professor David Lam Chi-leung (林志良) (Medicine, SClinMed) was appointed Co-Editor-in-Chief of Respirology

Professors Karen Lam Siu-ling (林小玲) (Medicine, SClinMed) and Irene Ng Oi-lin (吳呂愛蓮) (Pathology, SClinMed) were listed among the Best Female Scientists in the World 2025 Ranking and Best Female Scientists in China 2025 Ranking by Research.com

Professor Philip Li Hei (李曦) (Medicine, SClinMed) was named Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology

Professor David Lui Tak-wai (呂德威) (Medicine, SClinMed) was appointed Executive Committee Member of Asia Pacific Consortium on Osteoporosis (APCO)

Professor Loey Mak Lung-yi (麥龍兒) (Medicine, SClinMed) received the Rising Star Award 2025 (Runner-Up), Global Women in Healthcare Awards from EMMS International and Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. She was also selected as Future Leader 2025 by touchENDOCRINOLOGY, and appointed Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Hepatology

Professor Siddharth Sridhar (薛達) (Microbiology, SClinMed) received the Heine-Medin Award from the European Society for Clinical Virology

Professor Sydney Tang Chi-wai (鄧智偉) (Medicine, SClinMed) was named Distinguished Fellow by the European Renal Association and was appointed the Chair, Scientific Programme Working Group, World Congress of Nephrology 2026 by the International Society of Nephrology

Professor Florence Chan King-pui (陳璟珮) (Medicine, SClinMed) was appointed as Young Fellow Member of the Specialty Board in Respiratory Medicine by the Hong Kong College of Physicians. She also received the Distinguished Research Paper Award for Young Investigators 2025 and the Young Investigator Research Grant 2025 from the Hong Kong College of Physicians
