Mr Chan Kwok-ki (陳國基), the Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR Government, visited HKU-SZH on 10 January 2024. During his visit, representatives from HKU-SZH delivered presentations on the HKU-SZH’s latest developments and joint initiatives with Hong Kong, such as the Elderly Health Care Voucher Scheme and the Pilot Scheme for Supporting Patients of the Hospital Authority in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), which aimed to improve medical services for Hong Kong residents in Mainland China.
Mr Chan also met with Ms Wu Hongyan (吳紅艷), Party Secretary and Director of Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission, Mr Chen Yaoguang (陳耀光), inspector of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, Mr Jiang Likun(姜力琨) , Party Secretary and Director of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Shenzhen Municipal Government, Professor Kenneth MC Cheung, Hospital Chief Executive of HKU-SZH, Mr Xu Xiaoping (徐小平), Party Committee Secretary, and the hospital’s management.
Mr Chan hoped the two cities could further the efforts in implementing the Framework Agreement on Medical Collaboration between Shenzhen & Hong Kong signed in September 2023. As a vital endeavor of the Healthy China Initiative, the framework agreement aimed at promoting cross-border exchange of talent, drugs and medical devices and healthcare services.
Wrapping up his three-day GBA visit, Mr Chan said this year marked the fifth anniversary of the release of the Outline Development Plan for the GBA. He was optimistic that the joint efforts by Guangdong Province, the HKSAR, and the GBA cities would further enhance the integration and development of education, technology and talent.
