140 for 140: Great Minds for Grand Challenges
Strategic Area: Pharmacology & Pharmacy

In the past decade, HKUMed’s Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy has developed undergraduate and postgraduate programmes like no other – a combination of solid knowledge-based teaching, problem-based learning, simulated online learning, small classes and interprofessional training. We also have a thriving research programme focused on developing new medicines and pharmaceutical formulations that can be evaluated in patients and improve health and the quality of life.

Our research profile is highly interdisciplinary and dynamic, spanning from basic pharmacology and drug development through drug delivery, clinical trials, big data research, use of medicines by patients, and safe medication practice. We have four Research Clusters focused on cardiovascular research, ageing and related diseases, drug delivery and translational research, and big data for medication safety and pharmaeconomics.

Both our teaching and research are underpinned by strong collaborations with local and international institutions, including the College of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre, the National University of Singapore, and the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital.

To support our work, HKUMed is recruiting exceptional international leaders in pharmacology and pharmacy who are passionate about research, committed to knowledge exchange, and who are keen to play an integral part in the delivery and teaching of our undergraduate and postgraduate Pharmacy and Pharmacology programmes.
