Building on the longstanding partnership of the LKS Faculty of Medicine (the Faculty) and Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong (GHK), the Faculty and GHK established The University of Hong Kong - Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong Clinical Research Fund (HKU-GHK CRF), which aims to foster collaboration between the Faculty and Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong (GHK) and those that could benefit from the advanced equipment available at GHK; enhance capabilities and strengths of the Faculty and GHK where expertise in the two entities is complementary and synergistic; establish a new platform of cutting-edge medical research and clinical services through collaboration; foster a dynamic environment for knowledge exchange (KE) within the clinical community; and boost social responsibility by providing medical assistance and healthcare services to those in need.

Call for applications will be made once a year in general, and subject to funding availability. Please refer to the Faculty's internal call for the application deadline and other information.
Each applicant may submit one application only. To ensure fairness for intending applicants, no late submissions will be accepted and no applications with incomplete documents will be entertained.

Eligibility
Faculty staff members in full-time positions at the grade of clinical or non-clinical Assistant Professor and above on any tracks, who plan to conduct primarily clinical research and studies and/or KE and community engagement initiatives at or in collaboration with GHK, are eligible to apply.
Awardees must continue to serve the Faculty for at least 3 years upon completion of the awarded projects. Should the awardees leave their positions during the project periods or within 3 years of their project completion, they will be required to repay the award amounts, in part or whole.
Funding Amount
For clinical research and studies, the grant ceiling for a project is HK$1.5M and the project duration is up to 3 years.
For KE and community engagement initiatives, the funding amount and duration would be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Selection Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated for the consideration of grants on the basis of but not limited to the following:
Approval and Granting of Awards
Recommendations made by the selection panel for awards of the HKU – GHK CRF will be considered by the Dean of the Faculty or his / her delegate and the Chief Executive Officer of GHK.
The awards will then be jointly granted by the Board of the Faculty and GHK.
The number of grants to be awarded will be subject to the number and suitability of applications as well as availability of funding.
Awards of grants will also be subject to ethical approval of proposals by Institutional Review Board of The University of Hong Kong / Hospital Authority Hong Kong West Cluster and The University of Hong Kong – Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong Institutional Review Board where appropriate.
Reporting
Awardees will be required to submit an annual progress report within 2 months of each anniversary of the project commencement date. The satisfactory annual reports are required for the disbursement of subsequent installments of the awards.
A final report should be submitted within 3 months of project completion.
Awardees who fail to submit reports may be debarred from applying for any grants supported by the Faculty / GHK in the future.
Financial Arrangement
The awarded funding should be used to support costs directly associated with the project, such as staffing costs, equipment purchases, GHK hospital expenses, consumables, general expenses and travelling, and will be released by installments with the amount to be evenly distributed among the number of project years in general and subject to achievement of milestones and deliverables as set out in each application.
Administrative Arrangement
To meet future circumstances, the regulations of HKU – GHK CRF may be subject to review.
Acknowledgement will be given to HKU – GHK CRF (and the charitable organization of GHK after it is established) for publications and presentations based on research work supported by the grants / funding where appropriate.
