The LKS Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) has jumped to 31st position in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject in 2023 in Medicine, moving up nine places from 40th last year, and is the top-ranked medical school in Hong Kong. HKUMed also leapt 20 places in the subject of Life Sciences & Medicine, moving from 49th position last year to 29th this year, a historic high.
Professor Lau Chak-sing, Dean of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong, was delighted at the news and extended his gratitude to all HKUMed staff. ‘Everyone in the Faculty has been working tirelessly to ensure we are always ready and able to serve the community during crises such as COVID-19, while also providing the highest quality education, research and clinical care across a range of medical diseases and conditions. Teamwork is essential for us to succeed and this designation as the top 31st is a welcome recognition of the collective efforts and commitment of our staff to excellence and professionalism,’ he said.
‘HKUMed has been serving Hong Kong and beyond for 135 years and counting, and we have built very solid foundations with support from across the community, including the University, alumni, patients and many others from all walks of life, not to mention staff and students. I wish to thank them all for their unwavering support. Together, we have a bright future in fulfilling our mission to train the best healthcare professionals and to conduct the most relevant research to meet Hong Kong’s health needs and achieve better healthcare globally,’ Professor Lau added.
Professor Lau also highlighted that HKUMed is expanding the talent pool by recruiting outstanding scholars from around the world under the ‘140 for 140’ professoriate recruitment campaign to celebrate the Faculty’s 140th anniversary in 2027. These staff will join HKUMed in enhancing medical education, research and clinical care, and promoting knowledge exchange of our research.
