HKUMed ascends to be top 13ᵗʰ medical school in the world in 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings

The LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) has attained the highest ever ranking of 13th in the subject of Clinical & Health in the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, moving up seven places from 20th last year, also a historic high then.

Delighted at this exciting news, Professor Chak-sing Lau, Dean of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, delivered a thank-you note to all HKUMed staff. ‘This is one of the most welcomed gifts to our 135th anniversary. Notwithstanding the challenges over the past year, we have worked diligently and persistently as a great team. Let me thank every one of our colleagues for their contributions, big or small, which certainly add up to attain this momentous achievement.’

‘While toasting for our new laurel, we must not lose sight of what has brought us here and now. Generations of teachers, staff, students, alumni, donors, patients and many others from the University have afforded us tremendous strength and unwavering support over the past 135 years and counting, which is instrumental to our success today. Looking forward, we shall continue to put people at the centre of everything we do and be humble. We shall carry on our mission of training healthcare workers of the highest calibre and professionalism, and be always ready to serve and nurture’, Professor Lau added.

In referencing the theme of our 135th anniversary “Building Dreams, Realising Possibilities”, Professor Lau remarks that it is a dream come true for the Faculty and hopes that our healthcare professionals, scientists, educators, students and staff alike will also be able to realise their own possibilities with this 135-year old establishment as it ushers in a new chapter of its history.
