This intensive programme was designed specifically for residents, fellows and surgeons specialising in orthopaedic or neurological spinal deformity management. The primary objective is to enhance clinical expertise through nine hours of dedicated lab work and high-level discussions with global experts, focusing on complex instrumentation and corrective procedures across all anatomic areas of the spine. Participants gained practical skills in identifying reconstruction options, employing techniques to avoid surgical complications, and mastering the placement of spinopelvic instrumentation.
The course was led by Professor Kenny Kwan Yat-hong and a distinguished faculty, including Professor Jason Cheung Pui-yin and Professor Kenneth Cheung Man-chee. The programme commenced on Friday with a welcome reception, followed by ‘Fireside Chat’ case discussions focusing on paediatric and adult spine deformity. Saturday and Sunday transitioned to the Surgical Skills Centre for a rigorous schedule of lectures and practical exercises. These sessions cover essential topics such as thoracolumbar open posterior techniques, various osteotomies, including Pedicle Subtraction Osteotomy (PSO), and anterior/lateral approaches to the cervical and lumbar spine. The event concluded on Sunday afternoon with a comprehensive question-and-answer wrap-up session.
