The HKU School of Nursing celebrated its 30th Anniversary with a lecture by Associate Professor Eugene Liu, Chief Sustainability Officer of the National University of Singapore's National University Health System.
The event commenced with welcome remarks by School Director Professor Chia-Chin Lin. Professor Peng Gong, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Development) at HKU, gave the opening remarks and Dr the Honourable Ching-choi Lam, SBS, JP, Chairman of the HKSAR's Council for Carbon Neutrality & Sustainable Development, gave the officiating address.
Professor Liu then delivered his distinguished lecture, titled 'Integrating Sustainability into Healthcare Practices', focusing on the need for healthcare professionals to adopt sustainable practices in light of the industry's environmental impact and highlighting various strategies. He suggested integrating green principles into clinical protocols, facility design and supply chain management, and policy frameworks.
Professor Liu's insightful presentation was well-received by the participants in the full-house event. It concluded with Professor Chak-sing Lau, BBS, JP, Vice-President & Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health) and Dean of Medicine at HKU, presenting a souvenir of appreciation to Professor Liu.
A number of high-profile guests attended the event, including former School Heads; Professor Sophia Chan, Professor and Director of the HKU Primary Health Care Academy and Senior Advisor to the HKU President's Office; Professor Agnes Tiwari, Chairman of The Nursing Council of Hong Kong; and clinical partners from the Health Bureau, the Department of Health, the Hospital Authority Head Office, public and private hospitals, and the deanery and school directors from HKUMed.
