During her Enrichment Year, Ananya Jain embarked on a transformative journey at Harvard University, immersing herself in cutting-edge research at the Center for Engineered Therapeutics (the CET Lab). ‘The CET Lab at Harvard Medical School offered a unique blend of engineering, biology, and clinical medicine,’ she said, ‘which was perfectly aligned with my fascination for advancing medical treatments,’ she shared.
Supervised by instructor Dr Lee Taewoo and under the guidance of Dr Jang Haelin , Director of the CET Lab, Ananya focused on glucocorticoid-induced osteocyte dysfunction using advanced techniques like western blotting and flow cytometry. ‘That experience advanced my skills in vitro research, preclinical testing, and advanced in vivo modelling,’ she explained.
Ananya recalled her most memorable experiences, which involved presenting her research at the Mass General Brigham Orthopedic Research Retreat. ‘It was incredibly rewarding to discuss my findings with such a distinguished audience and to gain exposure to a wide range of interdisciplinary research,’ she recalled.
The time at Harvard was a pivotal period, in which she gained invaluable technical skills beyond the clinical aspects of the MBBS curriculum. ‘Working at the CET Lab deepened my appreciation for the meticulous science behind medical breakthroughs and reinforced my commitment to bridging research and patient care,’ she said.
