HKU-CTC has been walking together with Hong Kong in the past 25 years in advancing human healthcare. To commemorate this milestone, the Centre held the silver jubilee celebration event in November 2023. The event brought together government officials, academic and industry representatives, as well as our dedicated colleagues in clinical research, with some 300 attendees. It was a joyous occasion started with speeches from Professor Richard Wong Yue-chim （王于漸）, Acting President & Vice-Chancellor of HKU, Dr Stephen Wong Yuen-shan （黃元山）, Head of Chief Executive’s Unit of HKSAR Government, Mr Henry Fan Hung-ling （范鴻齡）, Chairman of Hospital Authority and Professor Leung Wai-Keung （梁偉強）, HKU-CTC’s Chief Director, who commended the center's contributions to healthcare innovation in Hong Kong and its commitment to societal well-being. Appreciation was shown to 10 colleagues who have been serving HKU-CTC for 5 to 20 years. Five trainees had also completed their training programme successfully during 2022-23.
The ‘Clinical Research Governance World Conference & International Clinical Trial Center Network Symposium 2023’ co-hosted by HKU-CTC and the International Clinical Trial Center Network (ICN) also concluded successfully on 29th November 2023. The conference was themed ‘Clinical Research Success through Good Governance’ and attended by experts from Switzerland, Germany, United Kingdom, Austria, Australia, Nigeria, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, China, and Hong Kong to engage in in-depth discussions on various professional topics, including ‘International Collaboration in Clinical Research Ecology’, ‘Enhancement and Expansion of Research Capacity’, ‘Cutting-edge Research Methods’ and ‘Regulatory Reform and Innovation’.
The conference attracted participants from over 40 countries and regions across six continents. The total number of attendees, including both onsite and online, exceeded 1,800. Distinguished speakers at the opening ceremony included Professor Chak-Sing Lau（劉澤星）, Dean of Medicine’ Professor Lo Chung-mau (盧寵茂), Secretary for Health of the Hong Kong SAR; Mr Li Chuang (李創), Deputy Director, Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission, and Dr Christiane Blankenstein, Chairperson, International Clinical Trial Center Network (ICN).
