Dr Lui joined the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine in August 2022 as Clinical Associate Professor of Practice. He graduated in 2004 with distinction in medicine and finished the specialist training of gastroenterology and hepatology in 2011. In 2014, Dr Lui was one of the very few gastroenterologists in Hong Kong, who could be allowed to receive hands-on training on human cases of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), image enhanced endoscopy (IEE) and third space endoscopy under the supervision of Professor Takashi Toyonaga in Japan. In addition to advanced endoscopy, his research interests also include the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in gastroenterology and endoscopy. In 2021, Dr Lui published the first prospective clinical trial on the use of real-time artificial intelligence targeting missed lesions during colonoscopy in Hong Kong.
Dr Wong joined the Department of Microbiology, School of Clinical Medicine in May 2022 as Clinical Associate Professor of Practice. He completed his MBBS education in the University of Hong Kong, followed by training in tropical medicine in the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. He is a specialist in Clinical Microbiology and Infection under the Hong Kong College of Pathologists. He was previously a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, HKUMed and consultant microbiologist in Tuen Mun Hospital. He is currently focusing on services in clinical infectious diseases, microbiology laboratory diagnostics, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate education in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases.
Dr Chung joined the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, School of Clinical Medicine in August 2022 as Clinical Assistant Professor of Practice. He received his medical degree from HKUMed in 2014 and completed his orthopaedic specialty training at Queen Mary Hospital in 2021. He obtained his fellowship from Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. He is currently the Honorary Specialist and Intern Coordinator of the Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology at Queen Mary Hospital. His clinical and research interest lies in hand surgery, peripheral nerve pathology, soft tissue reconstruction and medical education.
Dr Kim joined the School of Biomedical Sciences in September 2022 as an Assistant Professor investigating the impact of tumuor-driven systemic inflammation on host morbidity and mortality using Drosophila melanogaster as a model system. Dr Kim received his BSc and MSc degrees from Korea University (South Korea) and obtained his PhD degree from the University of Minnesota (USA). He then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley. Currently, Dr Kim is focusing on mechanisms by which chronic and systemic stress signaling pathways disrupt physiology in hosts having tumour burden or high-fat diets.
Dr Kwok joined the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine in July 2022 as Clinical Assistant Professor. He obtained his MBBS degree from the University of Hong Kong in 2009. Dr Kwok completed his specialty training in Respiratory Medicine in 2017 and Advanced Internal Medicine in 2018 at the Queen Mary Hospital.
Dr Kwok’s research interests include airway diseases. Lung cancer is another area that Dr Kwok is actively working on. He was awarded the Li Shu Fan Fellowship for Internal Medicine to support his study in phenotyping and therapeutics of airway diseases.
Dr Lewis joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, School of Clinical Medicine in May 2022 as Clinical Assistant Professor of Practice. She is also Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London. Her research interest is in high-risk obstetrics, and she has been awarded a PhD for her translational research in the development of a bedside test for preterm birth prediction using a mass spectrometry-based platform.
Dr Lewis works as an obstetrician in Queen Mary Hospital and is passionate about providing good care in obstetrics and teaching. She holds advanced training modules in both high-risk obstetrics and perinatal mental health and has presented both nationally and internationally in these subjects.
Outside of work she enjoys trail running, swimming, and spending time with her family.
Dr Na joined Department of Surgery, School of Clinical Medicine in June 2022 as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Urology. He has special interests in genetic epidemiology research, genetic functional study, and clinical translational research for prostate cancer and other urological diseases. He has over 100 peer-reviewed publications in different impacted journals in the field, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, European Urology, etc. He was the youth committee member of the Chinese Urological Association from 2018-2021 and is currently a sub-committee member of the Chinese Urological Association (2021-present).
Dr Ni joined the School of Biomedical Sciences in July 2022 as Assistant Professor. He completed his Bachelor in Biological Sciences degree in Nankai University. Prior to joining HKU, he obtained his PhD and postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford and UK national electron-Biological Imaging Centre (eBIC). His main work includes determination of high-resolution structures of HIV capsid engaged with host cell factors, and bacterial carboxysomes using cryo-electron microscopy. His research focuses on the interface between host and pathogens (virus and parasites) to decipher their relationship in the molecular level with the state-of-art structural biology approaches. Meanwhile, he is also interested in methodological development in cryo-electron tomography, pushing the boundaries for biological imaging using electron microscopy.
Dr Pang joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, School of Clinical Medicine in June 2022 as Clinical Assistant Professor of Practice. She graduated with her MBChB at the University of Dundee, UK in 2011 and obtained her qualification of the Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of the United Kingdom in 2019. She subsequently completed her specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Glasgow, UK in year 2021. Dr Pang has special interests in infertility and laparoscopic surgery.
Dr Shih joined the School of Biomedical Sciences in May 2022 as Assistant Professor. He completed his BSc, MSc, and PhD at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on cancer genomics and somatic evolution, and he is developing tailored statistical models and computational algorithms to derive insights from complex biological data.
Before joining HKUMed, Dr Shih undertook postdoctoral training in Data Science at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, with cross-appointments at Harvard T.H. School of Public Health and the Broad Institute. He also did a postdoctoral fellowship in Systems Biology at MD Anderson Cancer Institute. Additionally, Dr Shih was a Research Assistant Professor in the School of Biomedical Informatics at UTHealth, while serving as Associate Director of the Data Science and Informatics Core for Cancer Research.
Dr Tang joined the Critical Care Medicine Unit, School of Clinical Medicine in September 2022 as Clinical Assistant Professor of Practice. She graduated with an MBBS degree from the University of New South Wales in 2001. Dr Tang started working in the Adult Intensive Care Unit of Queen Mary Hospital since 2003 and completed her training in Critical Care Medicine and Advanced Internal Medicine at Queen Mary Hospital in 2010.
Dr Tang actively participates in academic and research activities. She is involved in the Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Boot Camp for medical students, as a platform to equip them with the confidence of using POCUS in their future clinical practice. She is a renowned local and regional expert in the use of blood purification therapy in septic shock.
Dr Yeung joined Department of Pathology, School of Clinical Medicine in August 2022 as Clinical Assistant Professor. He graduated from The University of Hong Kong with multiple awards, distinctions and scholarships in 2014, and received his Fellowship in Pathology from the Hong Kong College of Physicians in 2021. He obtained his Master of Science degree in Genomics and Bioinformatics with Certificate of Excellence in 2020.
Dr Yeung is also honorary associate consultant in Queen Mary Hospital. His main research interest is in bone and soft tissue tumour pathology, involving the use of multi-omics analysis for better classification and prognostication of complex entities of sarcoma types. Specifically, he is interested in translocation-associated sarcoma and its functional analysis, with recent discovery of different novel fusions in sarcoma. He is also conducting studies on liquid biopsy as a non-invasive tool for diagnosis and monitoring of sarcomas. He has been involved in various interdisciplinary research on precision oncology and application of deep learning in histology image analysis.
