The HKU Primary Health Care Academy invited Dr SV Lo and Dr Brian Chung from the Hong Kong Genome Institute to explain the 'Hong Kong Genome Project’ to healthcare professionals, practitioners, faculty and students.
Genetic maps are like computer codes. Issues arise if only one code goes wrong. Similarly, a single issue with our genes can lead to diseases or rare conditions. Dr Lo and Dr Chung shared their expertise in researching human genes. Proper genetic testing can be used to screen for certain hereditary diseases, which is crucial for early diagnosis and prevention.
