The Dr Veronica Lam Memorial Lecture 2024, by Sir Paul Nurse, was sponsored by the Dr Veronica M.S. Lam Memorial Fund, established in 2008 in memory and honour of Dr Veronica Lam, for her valuable contribution to the former Department of Biochemistry (now the School of Biomedical Sciences). The aim of the lecture was to enrich and expand the scientific horizons of students and staff, and to inspire them in their learning and research. Sir Paul Nurse, an eminent scientist, is the Director of the Francis Crick Institute in London, Chancellor of the University of Bristol, and 2001 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine. His lecture 'What is Life?' attracted over 300 guests, including the family of Dr Veronica Lam, ex-colleagues and students of Dr Veronica Lam, and teachers, researchers and students from different departments and faculties, as well as members of the public.
