The HKU Biomedical Sciences Summer Academy 2024 was a resounding success. With the continued support from the Croucher Foundation, our School hosted this programme for the third year. This year, we expanded our capacity to welcome 53 enthusiastic students from 15 local secondary schools, as well as their dedicated teachers, engaging in a week-long exploration of biomedical sciences on the HKUMed campus. The students took part in four hands-on experiments, delving into EMG/ECG techniques, planarians, protein crystallography and lactose-reduced milk, providing them with a diverse learning experience. In addition to the experiments, the students participated in various activities, including laboratory visits, an anatomy dissection laboratory tour, career roundtable discussions, a big data/bioinformatics session, human anatomy using VR technology and CRISPR editing. We are pleased that all the participants enjoyed the programme, and we hope they will take their newfound knowledge back to their schools and share it with their peers to foster the growing interest in the field of biomedical sciences.
