Mentors Who Made a Difference

As I approached my final year of medical school, I decided to join the HKUMAA 130 Mentorship Programme with the hope of gaining insights into the daily life of a physician and jump starting my career. I was eager to learn from experienced doctors who could guide me through transitioning from student to practitioner.

Fortunately, the programme paired me with two incredible mentors: Dr Matthew Tsui, a past president of HKUMAA and an emergency medicine specialist, and Dr Hannah Chan, a medical officer in internal medicine. We had great conversations ranging from practical advice to personal hobbies. One of the most recent moments was celebrating passing my final examination with them over an amazing Italian dinner. Passing was a big relief, and having my mentors there to celebrate with me made the achievement even more meaningful.

Through this programme, I've come to appreciate the role of mentorship in medicine. Healthcare is a demanding field, and having experienced mentors to guide and encourage you can make all the difference.
