Dear Alumni,
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all members of The University of Hong Kong Medical Alumni Association (HKUMAA) for electing the new Executive Committee and entrusting me to serve as President for the next two years.
We are deeply grateful to our Founding President, Professor Rosie Young, and our former Presidents, the late Professor Lee Kin-hung, Professor Leung Nai-kong, Dr Kathleen So, Dr Barbara Lam, and Professor Matthew Tsui for their invaluable contributions and guidance over the years. I would especially like to extend my deepest thanks to Matthew, our Immediate Past President, for his inspiring leadership over the past four years.
HKUMAA has seen tremendous growth in both membership and activities since our establishment in 1999. We have organised a wide variety of events for our members, such as dinner talks following our AGM, spring dinners, outings, sports reunions, band shows, family fun days, and gatherings for young alumni. We maintain close partnerships with the University, the Medical Faculty, and various organisations within the medical field. Our participation extends to sports activities organised by the Hong Kong Medical Association and the Golf Tournaments hosted by the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.
In addition to our numerous events and initiatives, HKUMAA has successfully established partnerships with a wide range of merchants over the years to offer exclusive discounts and promotions to our members. These partnerships span various sectors, including dining, apparel, health and wellness, insurance, etc., ensuring that our members can enjoy a variety of benefits as part of their membership. Additionally, we have been promoting the monthly “Yum Cha” lunch service of the Academy periodically since 2014.
We also launched HKUMAA’s first membership app in 2023, designed to provide a seamless and engaging experience for all members. This app is a testament to our dedication to innovation and our commitment to fostering a connected and supportive alumni network.
As we embark on this new chapter together, my primary focus will be on harnessing the collective strength of our incredible medical alumni community and providing robust support to each other, especially the younger generations. Our alumni network is a powerful resource, and by working together, among our medical alumni, with other alumni of HKUMed e.g. Nursing, Chinese Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, etc., we can achieve remarkable things and make a lasting impact.
We will continue to build on the solid foundation laid by our esteemed predecessors, enhancing our existing programmes and introducing some more new initiatives aimed at fostering professional growth, personal development, and a strong sense of community among our members.
In the coming months, we plan to organise a variety of fun and engaging activities to facilitate bonding, knowledge sharing, and mutual support. We are excited to bring you events that will not only enrich your professional lives but also strengthen the bonds within our community. Your participation and input will be invaluable to shape the future of our association.
The 130 Mentorship Programme will remain a staple in our community, and we will strive to create more opportunities for meaningful interactions between senior and junior alumni. These connections are invaluable for the professional and personal growth of our younger members, and your participation is crucial.
For the coming two years, with the support of my fellow Executive Committee members, especially the two newly elected Vice-Presidents, Dr Victor Yeung and Dr Flora Tsang, we will do our best to strengthen the fraternity of medical alumni.
I am genuinely excited about the journey ahead and look forward to working closely with all of you. Together, we can make a significant impact and continue to uphold the proud traditions of HKUMAA. Let us come together to support one another, share our experiences, and inspire the next generation of medical professionals.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication. I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at our upcoming activities!
