Dr. Chris Chan is the Laboratory Director of the Phase Scientific Medical Laboratory. He earned his PhD in the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine at The University of Hong Kong. Currently, he oversees all clinical laboratory operations across Hong Kong.

Dr. Chan has over 20 years of extensive clinical experience spanning both academic and hospital settings. These include the discovery of novel pathogenic event that leads to the discovery of undiagnosed Lynch Syndrome patients when he was serving in the Department of Pathology. Thereafter, he switched to a supervisory position at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital's Molecular Pathology Division, where he was in the capacity of Molecular Geneticist.

Throughout his career, Dr. Chan has demonstrated a strong commitment to integrating cutting-edge technologies into clinical practice. Some of the innovative techniques he has implemented include short-read next-generation sequencing (NGS), long-read NGS, and droplet digital PCR.

More recently, Dr. Chan has been exploring the broader application of urine-based clinical tests. This includes introducing the use of urine samples for HPV testing, which may offer comparable performance to the traditional Pap smear approach. Dr. Chan also believes that urine specimen can be used in the field of oncology. All these approaches will continuously enhance and diversify the diagnostic capabilities of the Phase Scientific Medical Laboratory.

Overall, Dr. Chan's extensive expertise, proven track record of innovation, and dedication to advancing clinical laboratory practices, which contributed to the field of medical testing. He would like to share his journey with those who believe science can change the world toward a better future.

Dr Alan Kai is the medical director of the Johnson & Johnson Ltd (Hong Kong). He earned his PhD in the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine at The University of Hong Kong. Currently, he is playing as the head of medical affairs function and also one of the leadership team members in J&J. Prior to his current position, he was the medical lead in Novartis Pharmaceutical Ltd and also scientific advisor in Bristol Myers Squibb Ltd, specializing in the solid tumor oncology portfolio and precision medicine. Having a strong commitment to elevate Hong Kong as a leading clinical trial hub in Asia Pacific, Dr Kai is also serving the clinical trial project team of the Hong Kong Association of Pharmaceutical Industry as a team lead to devote tremendous efforts into maximizing the clinical trial opportunities in Hong Kong. In this session, he would like to share his career journey in the pharmaceutical industry after his postdoctoral fellowship in academia.
