The Research Postgraduate Symposium (RPS) was first introduced in 1996 to provide a platform for research postgraduate students to present and share their exciting ideas and progress in research. The objectives are to promote academic interaction and intellectual advancement among students and teaching staff. Through active exchange among presenters, Chairpersons, supervisors and fellow students, it is hoped that students will benefit from the dynamic and stimulating environment of biomedical research in the Faculty.

A total of 296 students have registered for this year's RPS, 188 of them will deliver poster presentations on December 11, 2013 and 108 of them will have oral presentations on December 12, 2013. The presentations will be grouped into sessions broadly based on the strategic research themes of the Faculty, namely, Cancer, Cell Biology, Genetics & Development, Healthy Aging, Infection & Immunology, Public Health and Translational & Regenerative Medicine. Prominent researchers from overseas as well as Faculty members in the relevant fields will be invited to be Adjudicators/Chairpersons of the presentations.

Two candidates who presented the best poster in each theme will be awarded a Certificate of Merit, and one presenter with the best performance in each of the oral presentation sessions will be invited to present again at the Plenary Session to be held on December 12, 2013 at 4:30 pm in Lecture Theatre 1, Cheung Kung Hai Conference Centre, G/F, William M.W. Mong Block, 21 Sassoon Road. During which a panel of adjudicators will select one presenter for the Best Presentation Award. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd runners-up will also be awarded a prize and a trophy.
