17th Research Postgraduate Symposium
December 12 & 13, 2012

Guidelines on Poster Presentation

  1. Preparing your poster presentation before the Symposium

    • Design your poster with an attractive outlook to (a) provide a brief overview of your work focusing on the objectives, hypothesis, academic progress and scientific merits of your project; and (b) initiate discussion and questions. Cover the key points of your work only as the display area available is limited.

    • A display unit measuring 0.9m (W) x 2m (H) will be provided to you. Design your poster so that you can make full use of the display unit, but avoid its bottom part as it is difficult for viewers to read anything there. Magic tape will be available for you to fix your poster on the display unit.

    • The title of your poster should appear at the top with font size about 72 (approximately 25mm high), followed by the name(s) of author(s) and affiliation(s). The smallest text on your poster should at least be of font size 24 (9mm high). Use large font size, bold font or color, etc. to highlight important points.

    • The poster should not be confined to text. Use diagrams, figures, etc. wherever appropriate to make the poster more attractive.

    • Make your poster as self-explanatory as possible as you are only given 2 minutes to explain the scientific merits of your research project.

    • Please stick a label at the back of your poster with your name and department at the left upper corner.

    • All posters must be set up during 3:00 to 5:00pm on December 11, 2012, i.e. the day before the Symposium. Your poster must be placed on the assigned display unit.

  2. Presenting your poster at the Symposium

    • All posters are open for viewing from 9:00am to 6:00pm from December 12 to 13, 2012. In addition to the poster presentation, you are required to explain to the adjudicators the most important scientific merits of your research project within 2 minutes during the assigned time on December 12, 2012. You are also expected to introduce your research project to those interested in your poster and answer their queries.

    • All RPg students are expected to participate actively in the poster and parallel sessions. Attendance at the Plenary Session to be held on December 13, 2012 at 4:30 pm in Lecture Theatre 1, Cheung Kung Hai Conference Centre, G/F, William M.W. Mong Block, 21 Sassoon Road is compulsory.

    • All poster presentations will be assessed by two adjudicators. Two presenters with the best performance in each of the five sessions will be awarded Certificates of Merit. Awardees will be informed by phone shortly after the Symposium and be invited to join the Award Presentation Ceremony to be held during the Plenary Session.

    • All posters will remain for viewing until December 14, 2012 and will be dismantled by contractors. Please retrieve your poster on Monday, December 17, 2012 from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at Multidisciplinary Laboratories 2 - 3. Any posters remaining after 4:30pm will be discarded and will not be returned to you.
