Professor ZJ Zhang, School of Chinese Medicine

Professor Zhang is an internationally renowned expert in specializing acupuncture and Chinese medicine treatment of neurological and psychiatric diseases, including pain disorders, stroke rehabilitation, neurodegenerative diseases, insomnia, depressive disorders, anxiety and panic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), tic disorders, and schizophrenia. 

His research interest focuses on developing effective treatment strategies from acupuncture and Chinese medicines for major neurological and psychiatric disorders through basic and clinical studies, and characterizing neuropsychopharmacological and therapeutic properties of novel constituents extracted from medicinal plants with the employment of behavioural, molecular, and biochemical approaches. He also has been engaged in exploring neural mechanisms of acupuncture effects and nerve and brain stimulation.
