Faculty 120th Anniversary Book
Shaping the Health of Hong Kong
120 Years of Achievements
This book is published to mark the 120th anniversary of the Medical Faculty and of the medical education in Hong Kong.
In 1887, the Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese was formally opened and held its inaugural ceremony with Patrick Manson as its first dean.
When The University of Hong Kong was formally opened in 1912, the medical college was wholly absorbed into the Faculty of Medicine as the premiere faculty.Hitherto, medical education in Hong Kong had been raised to university level conferring degrees in medicine and surgery recognised by the General Medical Council. The Faculty hence evolved from a small-scale college into one of the leading medical institutions in the world.
This book covers the establishment, development and achievements of the Faculty since 1887, as well as graduates’ contributions to the community. It is also a book of collective memories for our teachers, students, alumni and friends to share their reminiscences in their alma mater.
