About the Moderator

Professor Danny Chan (陳振勝教授)

Professor Chan is the S Y and H Y Cheng Professor in Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at the School of Biomedical Sciences, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong. He obtained his PhD from the University of Melbourne, and since then, has been interested in skeletal biology research, focusing on development, growth and degenerative processes of the skeleton in health and disease. He has more than 150 publications in journals such as Nature, JCI, AJHG, PNAS, PLOS Biol, EMBO and JCB. In recognition of his achievements, Professor Chan received an award for excellence in medical research from the Premier of Victoria in Australia; and recently, the Croucher Senior Research Fellow Award in Hong Kong. Professor Chan has a particular interest in rare diseases and helped to initiate an NGO, “The Little People of Hong Kong”, for patient groups which aim to increase the community’s awareness of the needs of people with rare skeletal diseases. He is also a council member of Hong Kong Alliance for Rare Diseases, advocating for the needs of rare disease people in our society.
