Delivering Medicine Beyond Culture and Disciplines

Foreword

On behalf of the Student Organizing Committee, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the 26th Research Postgraduate Symposium (RPS), an annual flagship event organized by the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong since 1996.

The theme “New Horizon in Medicine: Innovative Ideas to Combat Challenges” was chosen as this year’s RPS. Recent innovations equip us with unparalleled tools to understand fundamental biology, contrive therapeutic strategies and manage diseases. The emergence of such tools aids us to unravel the tranquillity of biology in greater depth. Harnessing these novel insights permits the development of innovative methods for disease treatment and management. Combining her rich cultural heritage and aspiration to transform into a biotech powerhouse, Hong Kong stands in an exceptional position to connect extraordinary minds globally in the hope to cultivate the next generation of scientific innovators and leaders. Given her long-standing interest and excellence in academics and medicine, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine embodies Hong Kong’s ambition. We are hence honored to have three world-leading scholars to enlighten us with their knowledge and perspective.

This symposium strives to be a platform for students to exchange knowledge and ideas. We encourage students to immerse themselves in this symposium, taking the opportunity to explore and understand the myriad of fascinating research conducted within the Faculty. To help students navigate their future endeavors, we host a career roundtable featuring academics and industry leaders to share their journey and perspective. We hope that students can engage in enlightening discussions that broaden their vision and spark interdisciplinary collaboration, thereby elevating the Faculty to greater heights.

We would take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude for the support provided by the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine and Professor Danny Chan, Miss Kimmy Liu and Mr Thomas Leon for their guidance and tremendous help in organizing this event. We thank the sponsors for the generous support of the prizes.

Thank you for your attention and hope you enjoy this year’s symposium!
