Delivering Medicine Beyond Culture and Disciplines

Foreword

On behalf of the Student Organizing Committee, it is our pleasure and a privilege to welcome you to the 25th Research Postgraduate Symposium (RPS), which has been held annually since 1996 at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong.

The theme of the symposium this year is “Leveraging the revolution in resolution: modernizing medical data perception”. Looking at the past few years, we have seen tremendous leaps in medical sciences, thanks at least in part to recent technological developments that have allowed us to change how we think about and perceive our scientific data. The volume of information available at our fingertips has expanded exponentially, challenging us to reimagine how and what to process in order to make the most of it. Thanks to its unique status, Hong Kong is a melting pot of cultures and heritage, a place where worlds collide and East meets West, where great minds meet and make amazing things happen daily, and the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine is no different. We are hence honoured to have two distinguished scholars from around the world to share their knowledge and experience at the online platform this year.

The aim of this symposium is to provide research postgraduate students the opportunity to present their work within the faculty’s research community and be inspired by one another. We encourage researchers to put a short pause on experiments to immerse themselves in this two-day online event, and to appreciate the amazing work done by our faculty’s young researchers, who are the backbone of research in the faculty. We also encourage fellow students to get actively involved in the symposium to collaborate, engage in scientific discussions and broaden scientific knowledge, all of which are crucial to unleash the potential of our research.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude for the support provided by the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine and also wish to give special thanks to Professor Danny Chan, Ms Kimmy Liu, and Mr Anthony Lo for their tremendous help in organizing this event.

We hope that you will enjoy this year’s symposium, in which we explore innovative approaches to research some of medicine’s most pressing issues.
