Delivering Medicine Beyond Culture and Disciplines

Foreword

On behalf of the Student Organizing Committee, it is my pleasure and a privilege to welcome you to the 22nd Research Postgraduate Symposium (RPS), which has been held annually since 1996 at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong.

The theme of the symposium this year is “Delivering Medicine beyond Culture and Disciplines”.  The faculty is an international hub that drives inter-disciplinary collaboration between cultures from across the globe.  This year we are honoured to have three distinguished scholars travelling to our faculty to share their knowledge and experience.

The aim of this symposium is to provide research postgraduate students the opportunity to present their work within the faculty’s research community.  In doing so we hope to encourage researchers from across the faculty to put a short pause on their experiments, hang up their pipettes, and become involved in the collaboration, scientific discourse, and idea generation that fuels academic progress.  Most importantly, this symposium will allow us all the chance to appreciate the continuous efforts made by our faculty’s young researchers who strive to expand our base of scientific knowledge, for the betterment of human healthcare and medicine.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude for the support provided by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, and all the generous sponsors who have made this symposium possible.  We also wish to give special thanks to Professor Danny Chan, Ms Vikkie Chan, Ms Kimmy Liu and Ms Clare Wong for their tremendous help organizing this event.

We hope that you will enjoy two productive days, in which we can expand the inter-disciplinary collaboration across the faculty.
