Statement in Response to the Release of the Report of the Steering Committee on Review of Hospital Authority

14 Jul 2015

The Steering Committee on Review of Hospital Authority announced its Report today (July 14, 2015). Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong (the Faculty) welcomes the findings, together with the recommendations, as set out in the Report.

As a keyplayer in the healthcare system of Hong Kong, the Hospital Authority has collaborated with the two medical schools in Hong Kong to provide training to medical students and specialists in various clinical specialties. The collaboration between the Faculty and the Hong Kong public hospitals was in fact started back in the 1920s, well before the formation of the Hospital Authority. Over the years, the Faculty has always been at the forefront of medical research and developments and has been conducting world class research in various fields of medicine. This needs the continuing co-operation and assistance of the Hospital Authority in honouring the longtime commitment in advancing medical education.

Therefore, the Faculty is pleased to note the Committee’s recommendation to set up a high-level central training committee under the Hospital Authority Board to achieve better synergy in meeting the training and development needs of healthcare professions in the future. The Faculty trusts that, with the continuing support of the Hospital Authority in upholding its training mission, the public will continue to enjoy world class medical services through the close collaboration between the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong and the Hospital Authority.
