HKUMed School of Nursing Invited to Join the China Nursing Consortium of Elite Teaching Hospitals

27 May 2019

The School of Nursing (the School), LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong (HKUMed), has been invited to join the China Nursing Consortium of Elite Teaching Hospitals (the Nursing Consortium) in May 2019.  The invitation opens the way for the School to collaborate with eight other prominent hospitals/nursing departments in the Nursing Consortium to facilitate cooperation and exchange experiences in clinical nursing education and training.

The HKUMed School of Nursing is the only nursing institution in the Hong Kong SAR named as a member of the Consortium, which will play a leading role in modernising nursing residency education in Mainland China.

The School will further strengthen its cooperation with the hospitals on the Mainland to enhance the quality of training for clinical and specialty nurses by establishing a common platform to share training resources, experiences and expertise, synergise efforts in research, evaluation and assessment, and develop standards for professional clinical nursing training.

The School will actively engage in the Nursing Consortium, in particular, by providing internationally benchmarked trainings on advanced nursing practices through its taught Master and Doctor of Nursing programmes, and by providing a platform for research collaboration and big data generation to improve nursing care decision-making.

The School, together with The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital (HKU-SZH), will co-organise the “9th Hong Kong International Nursing Forum cum the 1st Greater Bay Area Nursing Conference” (Nursing Forum) at HKU-SZH on December 9-10, 2019. The theme of the forum is “Shaping the Future of Nursing through Specialisation”.

Members of the Nursing Consortium will meet again during the Nursing Forum in December 2019 to share and discuss progress updates and new initiatives.
