Peer Supporter Programme 2020

Peer supporters (同行者) can make a difference!

☺ Are you willing to support your friends and fellow classmates when they are in need?
☺ Do you want to become a good companion to go through emotional ups and downs with them? 
☺ Do you want to improve mental health awareness and promote wellness among peers?
☺ Are you ready to contribute to a positive learning culture in HKUMed?

Student Wellness Team is launching the Peer Supporter Programme, which aims to equip our students with knowledge and skill to support each other mentally throughout the study journey in HKUMed.   

The programme includes:

  • Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Standard Course (12 hours);
  • Peer support and counselling skill training (2 hours); and
  • Supervised voluntary services / peer support practices (15 hours).

Upon completion of the programme, you will:

☺ become a Peer Supporter in HKUMed 
☺ be certificated as a Mental Health First-Aider
☺ be recognised with Medical Humanities Option (for MBBS II students) 

All HKUMed undergraduate students are invited to join the programme.

Programme Details
Part 1: Training (14 hours)

The training will be delivered by qualified MHFA instructor Ms Vincci Lau from Student Wellness Team, in the format of workshop, video show, role-play, experiential exercises and group discussions, etc.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Standard Course
  • Date: 28 July (Tue), 30 July (Thu), 4 August (Tue), 6 August (Thu)
  • Time: 18:00 – 21:30 (12 hours)
  • Venue: Seminar room 1A (HKJCB for IR) 
Peer Support and Counselling Skill Training
  • Date: 11 August (Tue)
  • Time: 18:00 – 20:00  (2 hours)
  • Venue: Seminar room 1A (HKJCB for IR) 


Part 2: Supervised Voluntary Service / Peer Support Practices (15 hours)
Self-initiated Voluntary Services / Peer Support Programme
  • Date: September to November
  • Time: According to individual schedule (15 hours)
  • Recognised voluntary services include but not limited to:
    Let’s Talk
    - Mental Health Day
    - Faculty-led or self-initiated activities related to student wellness / peer support
