Centre for Comparative Medicine Research (CCMR)
The Centre for Comparative Medicine Research (CCMR) is the largest and only research animal centre in Hong Kong operating with AAALAC International accreditation. The centre is responsible for the breeding of specific pathogen free laboratory animals for research and teaching, and promotion of humane care and responsible usage of laboratory animals in the University.
Transgenic Core Facility (CCMR-TCF)
The Transgenic Core Facility (CCMR-TCF), being a part of the CCMR, supports the Faculty in research by preserving valuable transgenic mouse lines through embryo/sperm cryopreservation, re-derivation and rescue of mouse colonies using assisted reproductive technology, and generating novel transgenic and gene targeted mice for researchers to study various disease models. The mission of TCF is to provide an efficient centralised service to support HKU’s cutting-edge research involving genetically modified animals.
Zebrafish (Danio rerio) is a freshwater species in minnow family under the order Cypriniformes. Native to south Asia, the species is emerging as a vertebrate model organism for studying gene interaction, developmental biology and modeling human diseases. Optically transparent embryos, large brood size and relatively short lifecycle compared to other vertebrate model organisms vastly accelerated biological studies.
Centre for PanorOmic Sciences (CPOS)
The Centre for PanorOmic Sciences (CPOS) was established by the LKS Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong to strategically support omics research, with aims to:
- Further strengthen the provision and development of cutting-edge core technological platforms and technological support/services to researchers;
- Reinforce the research and training components to complement the surge in multi-omics big data (genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, proteomics, microbiomics, etc.); and
- Carry out strategic research programmes which take a panoramic approach to understand health and disease mechanisms and facilitate the development of preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic measures.

HKU-HA Data Collaboration Laboratory (HKU-HADCL)
The Self-service Data Platform offered by the HA Data Collaboration Laboratory (HADCL) of the Hospital Authority (HA) was introduced in March 2020 with an aim to enable researchers from Universities to draft hypotheses and proposals, and conduct research studies by using the high-quality sample data and an advanced statistical analytic platform, Statistical Analysis System (SAS), provided. Researchers can make use of SAS in HADCL to draw inspiration for health big data research from the sample data by themselves.
The HKU-HA Data Collaboration Laboratory (HKU-HADCL) is the largest remote data laboratory for a tertiary institution in Hong Kong for HKU researchers and RPg students to access the HADCL Self-service Data Platform.

World Health Organization Collaborations
The School of Public Health has been designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Control. The designation of HKU School of Public Health as a WHO CC is the first of such kind at the University.
The Centre of Influenza Research at HKU is one of 12 laboratories worldwide designated as a WHO H5 reference laboratory. Its mandate is to provide international reference laboratory services and training on H5 and other animal influenza viruses with zoonotic potential, to provide WHO with data and risk assessment relevant to such zoonotic threats and advice on selection of relevant viruses for pre-pandemic vaccine development.
Yu Chun Keung Medical Library
As an integral part of the University Libraries, the Medical Library provides significant digital resources, multimedia as well as extensive print collections on biomedical and health sciences. The mission is to serve the curriculum, continuing education, research, and patient care needs of the University of Hong Kong and its LKS Faculty of Medicine. The overall aim is to become a regional centre of excellence in support of teaching, research, and scholarship in these fields. It is also a World Health Organization (WHO) Depository Library from 1993 onwards.
