Perception of Menopause-Related Symptoms and Hormone Replacement Therapy in the Hong Kong Chinese Population

Objective and Significance:

Objectives:

  1. To explore the prevalence and severity of menopause-related symptoms in midlife women in the Hong Kong Chinese population
  2. To explore the knowledge, attitude and practice of midlife women in the Hong Kong Chinese population towards menopausal hormone therapy
  3. To study the association of background demographic factors with menopause-related symptomatology in midlife women in our population
  4. To study the association of background demographic factors and symptomatology (including sexual dysfunction) with knowledge and use of HRT in our population

Significance:

Results of the study will provide useful reference for menopause care in the local population, and to guide further research and clinical development in women’s healthcare.

Research Plan and Methodology:

This will be an observational questionnaire study to explore the prevalence and severity of menopause-related symptoms, and the knowledge, attitude and practice towards menopausal hormone therapy in midlife women in the Hong Kong Chinese population, as well as the factors affecting them. This is a cross-sectional study; the study recruitment is expected to be finished within 6 months.
