Programme(s) to which this project applies:

☒ MPhil/PhD ☑ MRes[Med] ☒ URIS

Objective and Significance:

To illucidate the genetic determininants of complex diseases

Research Plan and Methodology:

A number of genome-wide association study (GWAS) datasets on various complex disorders are available both from studies conducted locally and those conducted elsewhere. These datasets have been analysed using simple statistical methods, usually looking one single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at a time. The research will comprise (1) a literature review of a chosen disorder, (2) detailed statistical analysis of the GWAS dataset on the chosen disorder, (3) interpretation of the results in the light of the known pathopysiological mechanisms of the disorder.
