The University of Hong Kong recognizes the impact of ultrasound in medical student education. Since 2022, the medical faculty has provided every final-year medical student with a portable ultrasound device. In support of this initiative, our department established a musculoskeletal ultrasound curriculum for all final-year medical students.
For post graduates, our department started the ISMS workshop series in 2024, with multi-specialty collaboration with the Chairman from the Department of Anaesthesiology and Radiology. This series has attracted participation from more than five different specialties, from trainees to seasoned specialists. For more details, visit: https://isms.ortho.hku.hk
In terms of patient care, our department pioneered the first Orthopaedic-Radiology collaboration clinic and the first Orthopaedic ultrasound clinic in QMH, and a one-stop shoulder clinic in MMRC, providing one-stop management for shoulder conditions, from clinical assessment and image-guided injections to physiotherapy.
Ultrasound is poised to play a revolutionary role in the next era of medical education and patient care. Our department aims to strengthen the University's prominence in this field, while continuing to foster multi-specialty collaboration.
