The Croucher Foundation Advanced Study Institutes (ASIs) feature intensive teaching sessions led by international experts, encouraging deep dives into specialised topics, sharing new advancements, and fostering international connections. These courses target experienced professionals with strong subject knowledge, with the aim of facilitating knowledge dissemination and international scientific collaboration.
This ASI, hosted by Professor Kathryn Cheah, focused on recent technological strides that enable precise insights into embryonic development and human diseases. Over four days, attendees engaged in enlightening lectures and technical workshops led by renowned speakers, including Professors Richard Gilbertson (University of Cambridge), Xi Chen (Southern University of Science and Technology), Yuanhua Huang (HKU), Joanna Wysocka (Stanford University), Shafagh Waters (University of New South Wales), Liangyi Chen (Peking University), and Liang Gao (Floreo Scientific Ltd.), along with their associated aides.
The ASI introduced the academic community to technological advances in analysing molecular processes, transcription and changing chromosome dynamics in single cells; the analyses, integration and interpretation of multi-omic data; the development and application of ex vivo model systems and the application of super-resolution live imaging and light sheet microscopy.
