Organised by the Department of Surgery, School of Clinical Medicine, the Inaugural Lecture of Leong Che-Hung Distinguished Visiting Professorship in Leadership by Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham took place on 28 February 2025. Lord Darzi delivered the inaugural lecture, titled ‘Leading the Next Frontiers in Health’. Lord Darzi is the Paul Hamlyn Chair of Surgery and Co-Director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London. He also holds a Doctor of Science honoris causa from the University of Hong Kong and serves as the Executive Chair of the Fleming Initiative, a programme under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, aimed at addressing the global challenge of antimicrobial resistance.
During the inspiring and thought-provoking lecture, Lord Darzi's visionary insights resonated deeply with over 100 medical professionals and students. He addressed critical global healthcare challenges, such as antimicrobial resistance, and called for international systemic reforms and collaboration to build resilient health systems. He emphasised the need to leverage cutting-edge innovations in AI-supported biotechnology, highlighting the importance of visionary leadership in navigating the future of global health.
