When a donor passes away
- The next-of-kin should communicate with the School of Biomedical Sciences by contacting 39176334 during office hours.
Mondays to Fridays : 9:00am - 12:30pm , 2:00pm - 5:30pm.
Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays : Closed.
- The next-of-kin must collect the documentation required as instructed by the hospital staff, such as the Medical Certificate of the Cause of Death, Cremation Certificate, Death certificate, HKID Card, etc., and then inform the School of Biomedical Sciences upon completion of these documents.
- The next-of-kin signs a declaration issued by the hospital mortuary that he/she, having the sole right to dispose of the body of the deceased, agrees that the body be released to the School of Biomedical Sciences, The University of Hong Kong.
- The next-of-kin must also inform the School of Biomedical Sciences of his/her preference of the method of disposal of the body after use:
a) Collect the ashes and arrange for burial or disposal by himself/herself.
b) Scatter the ashes at the memorial garden dedicated to "Great Body Teachers" in the Junk Bay Chinese Permanent Cemetery.
c) Arrange for ashes to be buried in Government's public cemetery.
- The School of Biomedical Sciences will arrange with Hong Kong Government's Cemeteries and Crematoria (C&C) Office for the transfer of the body to its premises.
